The Dangers of Asbestos Removal and Management of Uralite

Two decades after the ban on the use of asbestos in our country, the removal and management of uralite continues to be a current problem. This material, so popular in the construction of the last century in Spain, has proven to be tremendously toxic and harmful to health , to the point where more than 40 civil and medical organizations are asking the Government for a comprehensive law and funds for its safe elimination. But what exactly is the danger of this substance? Where is it present? How should we act if we have uralite at home? We see it below. In Spain it was banned in December 2001 and stopped being used in 2002 . However, the regulations did not affect materials already installed. These were allowed until the end of their useful life (about 30 years), which is when asbestos fibers begin to be released into the environment. Health Risks of Asbestos Exposure to asbestos has been shown to be responsible for four diseases  pulmonary fibrosis, pleural fibrosis and plaques, lung cancer, and malignant pleural and intestinal mesothelioma. It is also linked to laryngeal and ovarian cancer. Given continued exposure, the development time for asbestosis is between 10 and 20 years, and for cancers it is between 20 and 40 years.
