Photojournalism is what you newspaper reporters do, the photo usually has to depict the scene with a lot of information, like the environment and the people involved. Portrait photography is much more focused onto the person as an individual. Not much attention is paid to the surroundings. I hope this would clarify the issue.
To take the photos I had to use a telephoto lens like the Canon 70-200mm in order to catch the detail.
