FALL SALMON RUN HAS BEGUN!
Salmon are finally showing up in the river and out in front of the piers. I would say at the moment River fishing has been most successful this past week.
Perch fishing has been good this past week. Perch have moved in closer from out in the deeper depths between 28 and 40 feet of water. Anglers have been catching good numbers of perch using minnows. We anticipate the fishing to remain the same as long as there are no major water temperature adjustments in the near future.
Salmon fishing is still fair and they seem to be holding in the deeper depths. A few salmon have been caught in close but most seem to remain out in the depths of 100 to 160 feet of water. Best baits to use in 160 feet are Flasher and Fly Combinations or Flasher and meat rigs fishing 60 feet on down to the bottom. Spoons are working also and the magnum spoons seem to be producing the best. Spoon colors with Yellow and silver have been productive. Green fly's are also good.
Anglers have been catching a few fish off the piers either casting spoons or using frozen shrimp or Night Crawlers. Have only heard of small numbers of salmon caught off the pier but some are trickling into the river as the river bank fishermen have reported. Also guys are drifting the St Joseph river targeting a few walleyes using night crawlers and smallmouth bass fishing has been good.
