ROSEMONT, Illinois -- The Chicago Wolves came out fast then held on to defeat the Cleveland Monsters, 5-3, in an American Hockey League game on Wednesday in Allstate Arena.
The Wolves blitzed the Monsters early, building a 3-0 lead early in the second period to improve to 16-12-5-2.The Monsters, who snapped a three-game losing streak on Tuesday, are now 10-16-3-2 and have won just three times in their last 17 games.
Chicago jumped ahead with first-period goals from Tomas Hyka and Beau Bennett, then another by former Monster T.J. Tynan just 47 seconds into the second period.At that time the Monsters had been limited to just two shots on goal in the game.They were outshot, 14-2, in the first period.
Terry Broadhurst, who scored two goals on Tuesday against Rockford, got Cleveland started Wednesday with a goal at 3:55 of the second period, then Zac Dalpe made it 3-2 when he scored on a power play at 15:24 of the second.Dalpe, who was assigned to the Monsters early in the day, had an assist on Broadhurst's goal.

Coming and going: On Wednesday morning the Columbus Blue Jackets assigned defenseman Dean Kukan and center Zac Dalpe to the Monsters.On Wednesday afternoon they recalled Kukan.
Kukan has played 27 games for this season and leads all defensmen in scoring with 12 points.
The Monsters also announced Wednesday they signed rookie right wing Sam Kurker to a 25-game tryout contract.Kurker had 28 points for the ECHL Manchester Monarchs.
