Career in Investment banking vs. Management Consulting

HI,

I am a PhD student in Electrical Engineering focused on semiconductors. I am interested in moving to the business field from engineering. Would it be more appropriate to seek out management consulting positions or investment banking / VC / Private equity positions ? I have hearded that management Consulting offers more breadth. Is that true? What is the best way to apply for a investment banking position as a PhD ?

Any help will be apprecited.
